Earl Douglas Aune 83, Cook, passed away at the Chestnut Grove Memory Care Unit in Virginia on Friday, March 11, 2011.

He was born on September 18, 1927 at Virginia; the son of Louis and Alma (Amundson) Aune. He grew up in Cook and graduated from Cook High School in 1945. Earl enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served as a Fireman Second Class onboard the ship U.S.S. Leyte during the latter part of World War 11. After his honorable discharge, he attended the Dunwoody Institute course for carpentry. He was united in marriage to Katie on February 17, 1951 in Cook. Earl was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook, where he was an active member and taught Sunday school and the Bethel Series. Earl was a longtime, well known skilled carpenter, who worked for John Swanson, Picek Construction and Kantola Construction. He proudly built his own home in 1955 and together with his father built the family cabin on Blackduck Lake the same year. Earl was a dedicated community leader who gave his time to be a Boy Scout leader and a youth hockey coach. His second job was a well liked janitor at the Cook School. He liked hunting, fishing, and his passion was working in his wood shop and spending time with family at the cabin on Blackduck and at the Beaver Creek Hunting Shack. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Earl is preceded in death by 4 brothers, Lawrence on July 20, 2010, George, who died in World War 11, and Palmer and Olaf who died in childhood.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katie; 3 sons; 1 daughter; 1 brothe; 1 sister; 11 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many other special relatives and friends.
Spring interment will be in the Cook Community Cemetery.
