Bess Veazey, 101, of Gatesville, Texas, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at a local nursing home. Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 25, 2011, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Friends and family are invited to a potluck luncheon following the service at the church.
Bessie Mae was born in Merryville, Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, to the late Charles Palmer Tate and Annie Pearl Howell Tate, the only girl with three brothers. She was raised in O'Donnell, Texas. Bess graduated from Lubbock High School in 1929, and married Jack Veazey on December 26, 1933, in O'Donnell, Texas. She was Past Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls and Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. She received her 50 year certificate of membership from the Texas Chapter of Eastern Star in March 2000. She enjoyed reading and crochet. She also loved playing bridge, playing with a bridge club in Gatesville well into her 90's.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jack Veazey on August 28, 1993; brothers, Claude, Clyde and Charles Tate; and son-in-law, Art Wolff.
Bess is survived by her daughters, Jane Daniels and husband, Bob, of Gatesville and Kathlyn Wolff, of Wichita, Kansas; son, Jack Veazey and wife, Sandra, of Lubbock; grandchildren, Mark Daniels, Amy Veazey Mitchler, James Veazey and wife, Sheri, and Doug and Kurt Wolff; great-grandchildren, Steven Mitchler, Austin Mitchler, Ashlyn Veazey, Anna Lynn Wolff and Drake Wolff; and many other family members and friends.
