Lorraine Mary (Simon) Freeman

June 17, 1930 - October 15, 2012

KEIZER - Lorraine (Simon) Freeman passed away quietly on Monday, October 15th in the presence of her children.

Lorraine was born the second of three children to Felix Herman Simon and Irene Mary (Hunter) Simon. Born in Seattle, Washington, she and family moved to North Portland a few years later. Much of her happy childhood was later spent in the little community of Hazel Dell north of Vancouver. She attended Providence Academy where her character formation was attended to by the Sisters of Providence and where she graduated in 1948. A short college career at Marylhurst was concluded (happily by her account) when she married her grade school sweetheart Clifford J. Freeman on August 19, 1950 following his return from a tour in the Navy and the Korean Conflict. They made their home in Vancouver and began the epic process of raising seven children, each of whom, in time, attended and graduated from St. Joseph's Grade School.

Lorraine was wholly and completely satisfied and fulfilled by the task of having children and raising a family. And she did it well. For her it was an all-consuming endeavor to which she devoted herself fully and from which each of her children benefited greatly in life.

Relying on memories, stories and old pictures, it's clear that 'Nane' was a happy and light-hearted child and young woman and attracted friends throughout her life probably because of the sparkle of her personality— she was a lot of fun to be around. And as the years went by she was true to those friendships which while not large in number, were something she treasured.

While she slung her share of meals at the table of eight hungry mouths, cooking was not her passion. Sewing was and she excelled at it especially in the area of quilt-making. Her quilt output and the quality of her work were both stunning.

Lorraine is survived by her children; John Freeman, Suzanne Pettibone, Thomas Freeman, Charles Freeman, Robert Freeman, Cynthia Harker and Michael Freeman and sister Adrienne Hagey.

She will be greatly missed by her children, friends, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, October 26, 2012 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 5303 River Road North, Keizer, OR 97303 at 10:30am (Rosary begins at 10am).
