METROPOLIS. Ill. — James A. Beggs, 88, of Metropolis passed away Monday, January 10, 2011, at his residence.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Metropolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Siere and Rev. Don Haun officiating.
Mr. Beggs was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a strong religious person. He attended Eastland Baptist Church in Metropolis. He was an excellent carpenter and cabinet maker. His hobbies included trading guns, telling jokes and woodworking. He never met a stranger, and loved to help people. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Mr. Beggs is survived by his wife of over twenty years, Edna A. Beggs; five sons, Paul D. Beggs of Metropolis, Todd Stephens and wife Lisa of Henderson, Kentucky, Jerry Stephens and wife Dana of Metropolis, Leland McBride and wife Faye of Metropolis, and Randy Mcbride of Mayfield, Kentucky; three daughters, Ruth Ann White and husband Allan of Englewood, Florida, Gayla Schnaare and husband Dale of Metropolis, and Charlene McBride of Karnak, Illinois; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one niece; and one nephew.
Mr. Beggs was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Pearl Lokey Beggs; and two brothers.
There will be no public visitation.
Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
