William H. Carithers was the son of William Daniel & Eliza Mary Rhodes Carithers. He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth Dudley. His children were: Mary Frances Carithers (married Chesley S.A. Hardman); John Henry Carithers (married Josephine H. Hardman (sister of Chesley); and Martha Elizabeth Carithers (never married).
W.H.'s wife, Mary, is buried in an unmarked grave next to him.
Enlisted Private, Company A, 11 Jul 1861. Appointed 4th Corporal 1 Aug 1864. Captured at Deep Bottom, VA 16 Aug 1864 and released at Elmira, NY 26 Jul 1865. Company fought at Malvern Hill, Spotsylvania, Wilderness, Chancellorsville & Seven Pines in Virginia; Crampton's Gap in Maryland and Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. William was granted disability pension for injured leg. Paid $50 1897-1902; paid $60 1906; paid $50 1909.
