Frank E. Austin Sr. died at home in Dallas on August 14, 1941. The obituary in the Dallas Morning News reads, "Frank Austin to be laid to rest. Frank Austin, 70, Dallas Industrialist and Civic Leader died at his home at 4565
Bordeaux, Wednesday. Services will be conducted by Bishop Harry T. Moore of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas at the Chapel of Sparkman-Brand, Thursday at 5 PM. Burial at Hillcrest. Frank Austin was born June 8, 1871 at De Puyster, N. Y. and came to Dallas in 1892 to join his brother, George L. Austin in the construction business representing the George E. King Bridge Company. Later, the brothers founded a partnership. Frank was chair of the board of that partnership, Austin Brothers Inc. at the time of his death. He was active as an officer and director in several other Dallas businesses. He had relinquished a number of his business connections in recent years, but remained vice president, director, and executive committee member of the Republic National Bank, a director of the Liberty State Bank, and the Oak Cliff Bank and Trust Company. Other businesses, which he helped found and in which he was active, include the Southern Ornamental Irons Works of Arlington, of which he was president: the Austin Bridge Company of which he was director and treasurer, the Wyatt Metal and Boiler works, of which he was director. He was also director for both the Dallas Power and Light Company, and the Dallas Railway and Union Depot Company. He was active in the affairs of St. Matthew's Cathedral for many years as a vestry man. He was a member of the board of trustees of the St. Matthew's home for Children. Mr. Austin was married in 1906 to Miss Dorothy Connor, daughter of the late W. O. Connor,[and Lula Jane Mays] who survives him. A son, Frank E. Austin, Jr.; a daughter, Miss Dorothy Austin, a brother, George Austin of Atlanta, Georgia, a sister Miss Myron Burnham of Rensselaer Falls, N. Y. and a granddaughter survive him. Pall bears are: W.E. Walker, Nelson Waggener, Maurice Purnell, J.T. Elliott, Jr., Robert Olmsted, W.M. Lingo, Jr., H. E. Prather, and Joe Linz."
