They are mentioned in a card file at the Livingston Co. Hist Office, Mt Morris. They were extracted from the book "Early Settlers" -a list of persons who traded in Mt. Morris in the year indicated. - Russel Barnes traded in 1827 and John Barnes in 1826 (buried Mt. MORRIS Cem.).
Russell's siblings were Catherine WRIGHT, Nathanial BARNES, Allen BARNES, Polly THAYER.
Wright Barnes and Thayer had a knife factory on Massachusetts Street. Russel BARNES owned a large farm which extended from Mill Street to Massachusetts St. along Church St. and included a good share of Elwood and the Jefferson lands to the Keshequa, Lot 29 John McSWEENEY later purchased.
Apparently in Russell's Will he cut out a couple children from there inheritance Lester BARNES was bringing the matter to court say that his father was incompetent and influenced to cut him out of the will.
