J.A. Major died in Keith county, Nebraska, west of Paxton on Highway #30. He lived in Chappell, Deuel county, Nebraska. he died 28 August 1938 in an automobile accident on highway #30. Death was instantaneous caused by a broken neck and internal injuries. He was white, male and married to Effie Ann Major. He was born 7 August 1867 in Fairfield, Iowa. He died at 71 years and 21 days. He had been a farmer and had last worked in July of 1932 and had been a farmer for 41 years. He was the son of David Major and Margaret Johnson both born in Ireland. Informant was Mrs. J.A. Major of Chappell. He was removed to Elwood on 30 August 1938, undertaker was from Paxton.

Obit says that he was driving with his daughter Ruth and Billy Smail while standing to the rear of his car which was parked on the shoulder. Ruth and Billy were sent to the Sutherland hospital. Ruth, a teacher in Chappell had a hip bruise and cuts on her left arm. Billy had a fractured knee cap. The car that hit them was driven by Ray Little of Ogallala, he was accompanied by R.B. McKee who owned the other car. Little had fractured ribs and facial cuts and McKee had a dislocated hip and cuts. They both went to the Ogallala hospital. Andrew had been visiting his son Leslie and his daughter Ethel. Ruth had been at a teacher's conference in Lincoln, came to Edison Saturday to visit with Edith and on Sunday, they all set off for home. He is buried in the Elwood Cemetery. His widow lived for almost 20 years after he died at age 71.
