Recent Deaths Here and Elsewhere That Will Interest Marion County People.
T. R. Cole died at his home in Knoxville last Wednesday, April 14, aged 81 years, 11 months and 10 days.
T. R. Cole, son of Samuel and Sarah Ross Cole, was born in Ashland county Ohio, May 4, 1838. His parents were christian people, his father being a local preacher. In 1887 Mr. Cole was converted , under the ministry of Rev. G. F. Cannom, and united with the M. E. church. He became a devoted and loyal member of the church and delighted in its work, because he saw in it a means of advancing the kingdom of God among men. Thus he continued his labor of love until failing health made further public service impossible.
He was educated in the country schools, Iowa Wesleyan college, at Mount Pleasant, and the State University of Iowa, at Iowa City. On the outbreak of the civil war, while a student at Iowa Wesley an college, he heard the call of his country and enlisted in Company B. Thirty-sixth Iowa Volunteer Infantry, serving for three years. Ten months of this time was spent in a southern prison at Tyler , Tex.
After completing his education Mr. Cole taught school for several years. He then engaged in the mercantile business in Lovilia, Bussey and Marysville. In the latter place he remained in business for thirty-three years, and in 1911 removed to Knoxville, which was his home until his death.
He was married March 18, 1875, to Luella Clark, who, with their son T. R. Cole, of Lamont, Okla.; two grandsons, two brothers, Dr. D. L. Cole, of Oskaloosa, and I. W. Cole, of Sioux Falls, S. Dak ., survive him. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and a loyal friend.
Short funeral services were held at the home last Friday at 9 o'clock a.m. The body was taken to Lovilla where services were held at the M. E. church at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. H. B. Scoles . Interment was made in Woodlawn cemetery, Lovilia.

This is my great-grandfather.
