PIPER CITY - The Rev. Philip R. Coen, 81, of Kerrville, Texas, formerly of Piper City, died Oct. 4, 1999, at Kerrville Hospital.

His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Presbyterian Church, Piper City, the Rev. Ora Baker officiating. Inurnment will be in Brenton Cemetery, Piper City. There will be no visitation. Hager Memorial Home, Chatsworth, has charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The Rev. Coen was born Dec. 1, 1917, in Springfield, the son of Philip R. and Helen Buchanan Coen. He married Arlo Shellman on Oct. 25, 1941, in Independence, Mo. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Ann Marie (Sam) Bowsher, Taylorville; and Evelyn (Joe) Gill, Paris, Ill.; one son, Robert Wesley (Elaine) Coen, Minooka; one sister, Mary Esslinger, Tucson, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Betty Coen, Maroa; and six grandchildren.

One son preceded him in death.

The Rev. Coen was a former Presbyterian pastor in Piper City and Kerrville. He also served in the states of Idaho, Washington and Iowa.
