Dee was born in Logan, Utah on June 24, 1932 to George M. Butterfield and Flora Stowell Butterfield. He passed away on September 21, 2013 while surrounded by his loving family.

He was raised in Cache Valley, Utah, where he met and married his sweetheart and loving wife of sixty years, Arlene Alvey. In 1955, they moved to Salt Lake County.

He served forty-three years in the Utah National Guard. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was one of the original members of the 19th Special Forces Group. He was a dedicated soldier.

Dee is survived by his wife, Arlene; their three sons, Tom (Sherrie), Rob (Laura), and Pat (Audra), eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Sue Etta Butterfield and Cindy Markus. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a brother.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 300 East 6200 South in Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the services at the church, and Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street (100 East), Murray, Utah.
Interment at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 1711 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah.
