Shortly before his death he filed citizenship application in Eureka, Kansas 23
Oct 1940. He died before he was able to become a citizen. State of Kansas, In
the District of Greenwood County of Eureka, Kansas: I Albert Lewis now
residing at 621 East River, Eureka, Greenwood, Kansas, occupation stone mason
& brick layer, aged 74 years, do declare on oath that my personal description
is sex Male, color White, complexion Dark, color of eyes Brown, color of hair
Grey, height 5 feet 10 1/2 inches, weight 160 pounds; no visible distinctive marks, language English; nationality English; was born in Market Drayton [England] on August 6, 1866 and am married. The name of my wife is Cora A. Lewis; we were married on
August 6, 1895 at near Eureka, Kansas; she was born at near Eureka, Kansas on
December 1, 18873, entered the United States at New York City, N.Y., for
permanent residence therein, and now resides at Eureka, Kansas. I have 3
children, and the name, date and place of birth, and place of residence of each
of said children are as follows: Glenn R. Lewis, Eureka, Kansas, October 9,
1896, La Mesa, Calif. Lorena S. Peters, Eureka, Kansas, October 9, 1898,
Sedan, Kansas, Alberta A. LaRue, Eureka, Kansas April14, 1910, Houston, Texas.
I have not heretofore made a declaration of intention. My last foreign
residence was Market Drayton, England. I emigrated to the United States of
America from Liverpool, England and lawful entry for permanent residence in the
United States was at New York City, N.Y. under the name of Albert Lewis, on
the vessel S.S. Brooklyn. OBIT: When a young man he learned the building trade and many of the homes and
public buildings in Eureka are permanent evidence of a task well done. His
greatest interest was his home and family. Member of the Episcopal Church of
England. For the past 5 years he was in failing health and had been bedfast
since April 940. Services at the Baird Funeral Home conducted by the Rev Bert
Sutton of the Christian Church.
Albert Lewis, son of John and Sarah Lewis was born in Market Drayton, Shropshire, England, August 6, 1866. The family came to America in 1870 and made their home on a farm near Spring Creek. There were eight children in the home. Today only two remain, Charley and Brook, both of Eureka.

On August 6, 1895, a new home was formed by the marriage of Albert Lewis and Cora Richardson. This home was blessed with three children, Glenn of La Messa, California, Lorena of Sedan, Kansas, and Alberta of Houston, Texas.

Mr. Lewis spent his entire life in and near Eureka. When a young man he learned the building trade and many of the homes and public building here are permanent evidence of a task well done.

His greatest interest was his home and family. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of England.

For the past five years Mr. Lewis has had failing health and has been bedfast since April of this year. He passed away early Wednesday, December 11, at 11:35 p.m.

Thse who are left are his two brothers, his loving wife, the three children, and six gradchildren, Worley and Lyle Dean LaRue of Houston, Texas, Marjorie Peters of Sedan, Kansas, Joe and Jimmy Lewis of La Messa, California and Corporal Jack Lewis of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Service were conducted Friday December 13, from the Baird Funeral Home by the Rev. Bert Sutton of the Christian Church. Addington Bruton, accompanied by Mrs. Ward McGinnis at the piano, sang, "Crossing the Bar," and "Going Home." Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
