|Birth: ||May 5, 1885|
|Death: ||Jun. 13, 1923|
Abijah was born on a family farm in Posey County, Indiana. He migrated to the west coast in 1912 with his young family and worked many jobs, including the Skagit River road construction, the Seattle ship yard and city building construction.
He died on a construction site in Seattle, falling five stories to his death while renovting the Grand theatre into a parking garage. The event was a front page headline on the 12 June Seattle Times Paper. Abijah was moved from Washelli in 1936 to Acacia Cemetery, just east of Washelli when his son, Walter died tragically at age 21.
For many years he did not have much of a marker. In the mid- 1940's, when his wife Jessie died, their son, Gilbert Abijah Downen, bought large stones for the three of them. They and their son Walter are all buried together.
