CHARLES BASSETT DIES AT GARY, BURIAL HERE
Charles Basssett, 87, for many years a resident of Elwood, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F.O. Hodson, of Gary, Wednesday, of infirmities of age, according to a message received by D.R. King, a friend of the family.
Mr. Bassett, who was a well known civil war veteran, lived in the property at 1923 North C street which he sold to John Sebrell and for the past ten years has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Hodson, also former Elwood residents.
He is survived by four chidren, Mrs. Gertrude Hodson, Mrs. Charles Allison, and Ora Bassett, of Gary and Walter Bassett of Chicagoi.
The body will be brought to Elwood for burial, the party driving through and funeral services will be conducted at the First M.E. church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clok by the pastor, Rev. H.C. Harman. Burial will be in the city cemetery. (Elwood Call Leader, May 9, 1929.
Mr. Bassett was a veteran of the Civil War. He was a Private in Company B, 37th Indiana Volunteer Infantry from August 1861 until he was discharged on July 15, 1862 because of a disability,
