Married Mary Ann Long Phelps June 4 1865 in Butler County, Kentucky. She was the widow of Elijah Covington Phelps who was killed at Columbia, Maury County, Tennessee.

The following was graciously shared by Dale Hardin (47527331: "Information taken from the War Department Service Records for Union Soldiers of the Civil War.

Military Service.
Company H, Ninth Regiment Kentucky Infantry

Joined Captain Cram's Company October 25th, 1861 He was described as being 5' 11" tall with a dark complexion, black eyes, black hair and a farmer.

He was discharged from service May 25th, 1862 on a Surgeons Certificate of Disability due to an ulcer on his leg that prevented him from doing his duty as a soldier in the infantry.

Place of discharge was in camp near Corinth, Mississippi. Discharged by order of Major General Buell."
