George Washington Bamberg married February 11, 1872, to Mildred Jane Weissinger, widow of Hansford Rizer. They had one child, a daughter born some months after he died, George Washington Mildred Bamberg. He died September 9, 1853 of typhus fever at age 27 in Bamberg, SC. Jane died March 21, 1915. After George Bamberg's death, Jane, who was a quite capable and successful businesswoman, supervised the work on the plantation. Their home was near the Rivers Bridge battle ground in Bamberg.
