Clarance M. Calhoun, 84, of 114 Franklin Street, died at 11:30 this morning at his home. He had been ill since last November.
Mr. Calhoun is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucy N. Cornack Calhoun; a son, Eugene Calhoun, 515 Bradlet Street; a daughter, Mrs. Edna Draper, 686 Mill Street, and four grandchildren.
Mr. Calhoun was born Jan. 24, 1874, on Wellesey Island, a son of Almarian and Elizabeth Heath Calhoun. He lived on Wellesley Island until he was 24 years old. and for the next ten years he worked on farms in the town Orleans.
He then moved to Thousand Island Park, where he lived until 1937, when he retired and moved to Watertown. While at Thousand Island Park, Mr. Calhoun owned a fleet of charter boats and also trucked cattle and horses from Canada to the United States, ran a boat livery and a gas station and operated a milk market and wood , coal and real estate business. He was constable for six years and served as cheif of the fire department.
Mr. Calhoun was married to Miss Mina S. Snell on November 24, 1897. She died May 31, 1956, he married Mrs. Lucy Nemier Cornack.
The funeral will be Thursday afternoon at 2 at the Poli Funeral Home, 137 Clinton Street. Rev. Thomas J. Carlisle, pastor of the Stone Street Presbyterian church, will offciate. Burial will be in the Calcium cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon and evening.
