Joseph F. Aveni, 82, 1013 7th Ave., died Sunday afternoon, Dec 17, 1995, at Mercy Regional Health System. He was born Dec. 16, 1913 in Tripi, Massina, Italy, the son of Antonio and Vincenza (Agati) Aveni. He married Edith Armina Krape on Feb. 6, 1938. He was a member of our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Mr. Aveni retired from the Juniata Electric Shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1975. He was also owner and operator of Fairview Pizza Shop from 1958 to 1978. He was also a music teacher of the saxophone and clarinet.
Mr. Aveni was a 1933 graduate of Altoona High in 1934. Mr. Aveni also attended Penn State University for electrical engineering. He was a graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce.
Mr. Aveni served as a U.S. Army sergeant during the Korean War. He served as master sergeant as a musician from the 28th Division Band with 17 years of service.
Mr. Aveni served as director for the Joseph Aveni Orchestra for 35 years. The orchestra played in the Altoona Area in such places as the Mouse club, Heidelbur, Eagles and senior citizens center.
Surviving are his wife, two sons: Joseph F. Jr. of Manasas, VA. And Richard P. of Altoona; a daughter, Joan G. Davidson of Gastonia, N.C.; five sisters: Margaret Nardelli, Helen McCulley and Antoinette DiFlaviano, all of Altoona, Adeline Raynor of Manasas, Va. And Gina Romani of Hollidaysburg; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Santella Funeral Home.
