Camila Arriaran Bills, 78, of Idaho Falls, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center surrounded by family.
She was born Feb. 28, 1931, in Pisco, Peru, to Abelardo Arriaran and Romelia Carcelen, the youngest of nine children. She grew up in Lima, Peru, and attended private school, receiving the equivalency of a college degree.
Camila met the love of her life, Reed E. Bills, who was traveling in Peru on a business vacation. They were later married on March 29, 1952, in Houston, Texas, and thereafter returned to Reed's home in Idaho Falls.
Her life in Idaho Falls was devoted to her husband and children, as well as being highly involved in religious and community volunteer activities. She was a member of the Catholic community and served as a speaker for many years during Hispanic services.
She donated her time to Ayudas, a community Hispanic services organization, and also taught English classes to the Hispanic community through the University of Idaho. In addition, she served as a court interpreter for Bonneville County. Camila sat on boards with The Salvation Army and United Way, and also enjoyed being involved with the Idaho Falls Symphony and the Idaho Falls Opera. Her donations to various charities are too numerous to mention, and she will always be remembered as having a kind and compassionate heart for those less fortunate and in need.
Camila is survived by her sons, Rodger (Wendy) of Idaho Falls and Michael (Nancy) of Boise; a stepdaughter, Beverly (Dick) Holladay of Moab, Utah; brothers, Alberto (Elsa) of Van Nuys, Calif., and Mario of New York City; and grandchildren, Asta, Reed, Sarah, Abby, Cooper, Pam, Scott (Patty) and Nichole. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albelardo and Romelia; husband, Reed; brothers, Octavio, Julio, Abalardo and Dagoberto; sisters, Maria Romelia and Amparo; and two grandchildren, Danny and Lisa.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 145 Ninth St. in Idaho Falls. A family visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St., and for one hour Friday prior to services at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.buckmillerhann.com.
