"TWO OLDEST CITIZENS GONE.
Benjamin Badorf, the Very Oldest. The oldest inhabitant of Lititz, Benjamin Badorf, is dead. He died 1st Sunday evening at 9 o'clock, at the advanced age of 86 years, 1 month and 5 days. About two years ago he had a paralytic stroke and since then he has been an invalid confined to bed mo of the time. Mr. Badorf was born at Fritztown, Berks county. After marriage he located in Penn township and engaged at farming. Later he removed to the old Lititz farm now owned by William Evans, which he conducted for about seventeen years. Seventeen years ago he retired from active work and became a resident of East Main street, Lititz, where he lived until death. The deceased united with the Reformed denomination at the age of sixteen years. He was twice married, his wives being Katie and Margaret Hollinger, sisters. He was first married March 3, 1829, and his first wife died August 29, 1850. On August 8 1852, he was married the second time, and this wife survives him. He was the father of eighteen children, seven of whom survive. Twelve were born with the first wife, of whom two are living; six with the second, of whom five are living. The surviving children are Mrs. Henry Kiehl, of Dillerville; John, Lime Rock ; Clement and Mrs. John Leib, of Lititz; Frank, of Oregon; Mrs. David Erb, Lebanon, and Benjamin, of Akron. Mr. Badorf was also the grandfather of 53, of whom 40 are living; the great-grandfather of 63, of whom 51 survive. In politics Mr. Badorf was a staunch Republican since the party came into existence. He was a subscriber to the Lancaster Volksfreund for sixty-five years and only ceased taking it when his eyesight failed two years ago. Although a member of the Reformed church, it was Mr. Badorf's desire to be buried in the Lititz Moravian cemetery and to have Rev. Moench preach the funeral sermon, and he selected his own funeral text. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon and the wishes of the good old man were carried out as he requested."
