Graveside services were held Monday at Keno Cemetery for Arthur Barkhurst, 79, longtime Klamath County resident who died Thursday at his home in Keno.
He was born in Castella, California and in his early years here operated a tug boat on the Upper Klamath Lake. He did construction work and for a time was employed by the Bonneville Power Co.
An avid fisherman and hunter, Mr. Barkhurst was best known for his interest in conservation activities. He was instrumental in organizing the Fish and Game Council among other projects, including attempts to bring salmon back to the Williamson and Sprague rivers.
He is survived by his widow, Naomi, Keno; son, William Henry Barkhurst, Alameda, Calif., and daughter Julie Ann Barnkhurst, Keno; also one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
