ATHOL Robert W. Meuse, 83, of 739 Daniel Shays Hwy., died Saturday, Feb. 03, 2007, at his home.

He was born in Athol, on Dec. 23, 1923, a son of Harry and Myrtle (Burnham) Meuse, and has lived in the Athol-Orange area most of his life attending Athol schools and New Salem Academy.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Force.

He worked for the former Union Twist Drill - Division of Litton Industries for many years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the South Athol United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men's Club, Pequoig Bowmen's Club, the Wheelerville Community Club, A.A.R.P. and the Athol Golden Age Club. Bob enjoyed woodworking, camping, bowling, hunting and harvesting mushrooms. He loved being with his family, especially the children and his dog Benji.

He leaves his wife of 20 years, Marylee (Wright) Meuse; a son, William Meuse and his wife, Michelle, of Londonderry, NH; two daughters, Carolyn Minty and her husband, Bob, of Petersham, and Gloria Stoddard and her husband, Ralph, of Athol; three step-sons, Brian Laffond and his wife, Debbie, of Lunenburg, Reggie Laffond and his wife, Denise, of Athol, and Bill Laffond and his wife, Laura, of Earleyville, VA; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers; Richard Meuse, and Paul Meuse and his wife, Gloria; and a sister, Shirley Sawin all of Athol; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Thelma (Sawin) Meuse; two brothers, Tom and Harry Meuse; and three sisters, Edith Matthews, Mary Rustausky and Betty Buskey.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. at Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., with the Rev. Freda Maier of Athol officiating.

Burial will follow at South Cemetery in Orange and there will be a calling hour Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Following the burial a gathering will be held in the parish hall of South Athol United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to: the South Athol United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, c/o Zane DuBour, P.O. Box 211, Athol, MA 01331 or the Gardner Visiting Nursing Association, Hospice Program, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440.
