Betty Imogene (Mays) Perez Botts 1923-2002
Betty Imogene Mays was born Jun 27, 1923 in Portland, Oregon to Harrison Cecil "Harry" Mays and Gertrude May (Warnock) Mays.
She had one sister, Iris Louise (Mays) Chase Winkle.
She graduated form Joseph High school in 1941 as Salutatorian and attended Kinman Business University in Spokane, Washington. She worked at White Pine Sash in Lewiston, Idaho and during WWII she worked as a secretary. In 1946 she moved to Milton-Freewater and was employed as a secretary in the local pea cannery.
Betty married Lt. M.F. Perez on September 10, 1946 in Phillisburg, Kansas. While stationed at Offutt Field, Nebraksa, they became the parents to a daughter, Elaina Manette Perez.
They family traveled from Nebraska to the Phillippine Island, General Buckner, San Rafael and Pittsburg, California, Wichita Fallas and Texas. The couple divorced in 1951.
Betty and her daughter, lived with parents until her marriage to Garald George Botts on December 23, 1959 in Lewiston, Nez Perce county, Idaho. He was the son of George Washington Botts and Ellen A. (Coston) Botts.
The couple built a house on the site of the old Mays' place in Joseph on what is now West Fourth Street. She worked for Dr. Jim Coffman and for Dr. Robert Blackburn until 1985.
She was a member of Beta Xi chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, the Hurricane Creek Grange, the VFW Auxiliary, a women's bridge group and a bowling league. She enjoyed animals.
Betty died on June 20, 2002 in the Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterprise, Oregon, surrounded by her loving family.
Her memorial service was held on July 5, 2002 with private burial in the Prairie Creek Cemetery.
