Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served during the Civil War first as a 1st Lieutenant and Regimental Adjutant of the 20th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, then as Lieutenant Colonel of the 67th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, then finally as Colonel and commander of the 111th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services".
