Medina Co. Gazette - March 27, 1891: Emily C. Burnham was born at Washington, Conn., May 17, 1817. Her parents were Ebenezer and Sally Clark. She came with them to Ohio in 1837 and settled in Medina Township. She taught school in Litchfield, Conn., before removing here, and afterward taught in Medina and York townships. In 1842 she was married to Nelson T. Burnham and from that time till 1847 resided at Middletown, Conn. And then returned with her husband and family to Ohio, taking up their residence in the brick house west of Medina, which was occupied by them till 1881. Her husband died in March of 1882. She was the mother of eight children, four of whom are now living, Frank, Edward and Andrew at Medina and Mrs. Eleanor Hendrickson at Washington D. C.

Mrs. Burnham was held in highest regard by all who knew her. In 1831, at the age of 14, she joined the Congregational church of Washington, Conn., and since the year 1847 she has been a member of the Cong;l church of Medina, and has been esteemed because of her devotion to the Christ whom she loved. It is said of her that "Her aim in life seemed to be to promote the well fare and happiness of others." Dying of bronchitis at the residence of her son-in-law in Washington, D. C., March 16, 1891 she was buried at Medina March 19, and her body interred in Spring Grove cemetery. The remains were borne and tenderly lowered to their last resting place by her sons and son-in-law, and her nephews, Frank and Porter Clark. "She rests for her labors and her works do follow her".
