Dolores Liggett Danielson, a long time resident of Mount Vernon, passed away May 16, 2003 at the age of 98.

She was born in Buffalo, New York on May 4, 1905.

Dolores is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Melvin Bromels of Fir Island; her grandchildren: Virgil Ellestad of Conway, Lorna Ellestad and her husband Jon Miller and great-grandson, Ryan Dralle of Mount Vernon, Dolores Lohman and great-granddaughter, Nichole of Mount Vernon; great-grandson, Peter and wife Bethany of Lynden, Julie and Gary Blackwell and great-granddaughter, Crystal and great-grandson, Derek of Burns Lake, BC.

She is preceded in death by her parents and numerous brothers and sister.

Dolores came west as a young girl. Her family first settled in Seattle where she attended school before moving to Mount Vernon in the 1920's.

She met and married her husband of 55 years, Roland Ford Liggett. They raised their family in Mount Vernon and together started the first Mount Vernon City bus line in 1945. They hired their daughter Patricia as one of their first drivers.

They moved to Seattle in 1949 and during the 1960's Dolores managed an apartment building on Queen Anne Hill.

Her grandchildren remember her as always dressing so prim and proper yet still willing to ride the Wild Mouse with them at the 1962 World's Fair.

Roland and Dolores liked to travel cross country with their friends, venturing to Alaska, California and the East Coast. They retired to Bellingham in 1968 to be closer to family and to enjoy outdoor activities. After Rolands' death in 1980, Dolores and her friends started going to the Tuesday dances at the Bellingham Senior Activity Center.

She married a long time friend, Wesley Graham in 1984 and moved back to Mount Vernon to be near some of her great grandchildren. Dolores and Wes continued to drive to Bellingham every week and rarely missed a Tuesday dance until his death in 1995.

Dolores married Dan Danielson in 1996 and together they traveled between Mount Vernon and Vancouver BC to catch the weekly dances and spend time with friends. Their dance travel took them to the top of the town in San Francisco and Tokyo Japan visiting friends and family along the way.

After Dan died in 1998, Dolores continued to drive to Bellingham every Tuesday to attend the Bellingham Senior Activity Center dances. The live band music playing her old time favorites like the Fox Trot and Polka, kept her young and fit beyond her years. When she was diagnosed with cancer last summer and quit driving, her family drove her to the Bellingham dances and liked to watch her enjoy herself as she danced around the floor with her long time friends.

Grandma kept in touch with friends and family when they moved away always sending cards on every occasion. Her room remained full of cards and flowers that returned many times over and filled her with love and joy to the end of her days. Dolores lived a full and wonderful life and was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She will be dearly missed.

Her family and friends will dance in her memory this Tuesday at the Bellingham Senior Activity Center. Memorials may be made in Dolores' name to the Bellingham Senior Activity Center dance program, 315 Halleck Street, Bellingham, WA 98225; the Skagit Hospice Foundation, PO Box 1376, Mount Vernon, WA 98273; or a favorite charity.

Arrangements are in the care of Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon.
