Sam Hunter, 68, of Clovis, New Mexico died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was born February 17, 1942, in Reed City,Michigan, to Orrin Freeze.
He was adopted at about age 2, by Harlan Lyle and Lydia Kimmell Hunter. He grew up in Mount Pleasant, Michigan and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School.
He married his latest wife, Treva Thompson, January 15, 2004, in Portales, New Mexico. He had been a resident of Clovis the past eleven years, moving to Clovis from Greenville, Texas. He loved woodworking, fishing, hunting, bowling, roller skating, and crocheting baby blankets. He had a wonderful sense of humor. was witty and loved to make people laugh. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Clovis.
He is survived by his wife, Treva of the home in Clovis; 3 daughters; Darla Hunter Dawson of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Alicia Hunter Davidson of Wills Point, Texas, and Angela Hunter Cronk of Hale, Michigan, 1 son; Samuel Allen Manza Hunter, 3 biological sisters, Charlene Brown and Janet Schole both of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Shirley, of Wisconsin, 3 biological brothers, Vern McQueen and Dennis Coffell both of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and 1 other from Wisconsin, and his adopted sister; Debara (Debby Rogers) of Mt. Pleasant.
He is also survived by 3 nieces, Lisa and Heidi Huff of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and Lexi Franse of Texico, New Mexico; 1 nephew, Nick Rogers, 15 grandchildren; 3 step daughters, Brenda Bioando and Melissa Mitchell of Middlesex, North Carolina and Jennifer Burnett of Utica, Mississippi; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, a daughter, Tiffany Elaine Hunter, a former wife Opal Boyd Hunter,and a nephew; Brent Huff.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Church of the Brethren in Clovis with Rev. Jim Kelly officiating. Burial followed at Texico Cemetery in Texico.
Casket bearers will be Lee Thompson, Will Barton, Steve Franse, Josh Franse, Gary Jones, and Shaun Banther.
