Dora Estella Boyer was born Feb. 19, 1920, to Franklin and Dessie (Craig) Spitsnogle on a farm outside of Odell. She graduated from Odell High School with training in Normal Education and began teaching in the rural school districts of Gage County at the age of 17. She met her future husband, Albert Frank Boyer, while attending a youth rally at the Mission Creek Presbyterian Church. Albert enlisted in the service and the first time he was home on "leave" he proposed. The wedding was planned and carried out all in a single day on Nov. 17, 1942, at her parents' home to allow Albert to return to base. Upon his return from WWII, they settled on a farm near Liberty and became partners in life and farming. After Albert's death in 1989 Dora moved to Beatrice and lived there until moving to Fremont in 2005. Dora was a member of the Mission Creek Presbyterian Church and the Missionary Club of the church. She also was a member of the neighborhood U-GO-I-GO club, the TEN (Ten Enthusiastic Neighbors) extension club, and the Barneston American Legion Auxiliary Unit 356. Her hobbies included her children and family, participating in the daily farming operations beside her husband, traveling, gardening, sewing, cooking, watching and participating in all sports and being among her friends and family.

She died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at the A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont at the age of 90 years.

Dora is survived by two daughters, Ellen Boyer and husband Ron Ostblom of Laughlin, Nev.; and Nancy Hoppes and husband Brian of Fremont; by three sons, Dr. Michael Boyer and wife Eldyne of McAlester, Okla.; William (Bill) Boyer and wife Mary Ellen; and Jay Boyer and wife Carol, all of Liberty; by a daughter-in-law, Sue Boyer of North Platte; by twenty grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; and by many former students and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Albert, on July 6, 1989; by a son, A. Kent Boyer; and by her brother, Earl Spitsnogle.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Mission Creek Presbyterian Church, rural Liberty, with Rev. James McNeal officiating. Burial will be at the Liberty Cemetery.
