MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - Barbara Jean Rubison, age 76, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at the Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born June 17, 1939, in Springfield, the daughter of the late Joseph Homer and Lota Nancy Ellen (Gray) Rubison.

Barbara was a 1957 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and retired from the Union Planters Bank in Mt. Vernon after 35 years of service. She became the City Treasurer for Mt. Vernon in 1971 and remained there until 1991, when she retired so that she could travel more for her bluegrass festivals. In 2003 she was appointed temporary Treasurer of Mt. Vernon until a full time Treasurer could be hired in 2007. She was appointed to the City Council in 2011 to fill a vacancy in Ward III and has served in that seat until present. She has served as chairwoman for the Finance Committee since 2012 and has been working at the Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce Office and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her two sisters, Sharon Eaves of Aurora and Wilma Roberts and her husband, Ray, of Sharon, Tennessee; two nieces, Michelle Prewitt and her husband, Mark, of Mt. Vernon and Tracy McAnnally and her husband, Russell, of Bald Knob, Arkansas; three nephews, John Roberts and his wife, Kim, of Sharon, Tennessee, and Greg and Chris Davis of Aurora and several great nieces and nephews.

Her stepmother, Jo Hazel Rubison and two brother-in-law’s, Jimmy Davis and Harold Eaves also preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow at the Wade Chapel Cemetery near Republic. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, in the funeral home chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to the Fair Haven Children’s Home in care of the funeral home.
