Jack Caraway, 70, 2000 Locust St., Eldorado, died 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at his residence.
He was born in Eldorado Feb. 14, 1938, to the late Jeff and Mary (Cano) Caraway.
He married the former Connie Ramsey on Feb. 2, 1958, in Metropolis.
Jack operated Caraway's Corner with his wife and worked as a coal miner. He also served as a lieutenant on the Kankakee River Police and Kankakee Civil Defense. He was an operating engineer in Kankakee with Local 150, and served the Eldorado Auxiliary Police. He was an Army Veteran, serving in Germany.
Jack was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Eldorado Masonic Lodge No. 730 where he was past master, Eldorado Eastern Star No. 610 where he was past patron, 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite, the Sword of Bunker Hill and the American Legion Post No. 169.
Jack is survived by his wife, Connie Caraway of Eldorado; two sons, Michael (Lisa) Caraway of St. Anne and Steven Caraway and friend Debbie of Eldorado; a brother, Larry (Peggy) Caraway of Aroma Park; a sister, Peggy (Lester) Paquette of Orangeburg, S.C.; beloved nephew, Danny (Brenda) Ramsey of Eldorado; three grandchildren, Joshua Michael Caraway, Jeremy Peter Caraway and Antoinette Caraway; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Jack will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. Russell Helton officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery with military rites provided by American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at the funeral home with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m.
