|Death: ||Jun. 10, 1614|
Walter Alyworth was the second son of John Aylworth, a Member of Parliament who died in 1575, and his wife Elizabeth Ashton. Walter was born c. 1542, at Canterbury, Kent, England. He married Joan/Joanna Stockett(born c. 1557, d. 23 November 1628) on 11 April 1577. She was a daughter of Lewis and Lucy Stockett (see Lucy's memorial here).
Joanna and Walter had 9 children, among them Frances Aylworth, (born c. 1597, d. 1648) who married her cousin, Thomas Stockett, Jr. (born 1595, son of Thomas Stockett and Jane Biggs). They had ten children, among them four sons who immigrated to Maryland during the English Civil War in 1658. One of the sons was Thomas Stockett III (1635-1671) of Obligation plantation, Anne Arundell Co., Maryland, 9th great grandfather of the present writer.
There is a memorial panel for Walter in St. Stephen's Church, Hackington, Kent, and one to his brother, Edward, (1552-1625) and his mother-in-law, Lucy Stockett (d. 1600). One of his brothers, Dr. Anthony Aylworth (1547-1619), was a professor at Oxford and physician to Queen Elizabeth Ist. (see his memorial on Find A Grave). I have a copy of a portrait of their sister, Frances Aylworth, Lady Reynell, painted in 1595.
