Henry Anderson was born January 2, 1839 in Glasgow, Scotland. His parents were James Anderson (Baker on Duke Street) and Elizabeth Taylor. He was married two times. His first wife was Rebecca Montgomery. They were married on March 26, 1863 in Wanganui, New Zealand. Rebecca died of Consumption in October 1863. They had no children. Henry's second wife was Caroline Schultze (daughter of Henry Schultze and Caroline Newton). They were married on August 16, 1864 at the residence of Caroline's father on Molesworth Street in Wellington, New Zealand. Henry and Caroline had eight daughters named Alice Rachel (Mrs. Edwin Lewis), Caroline Newton (Mrs. Lee), Florence, Maude (Mrs. Scott), Marion, Eugenie, Laura Evelyn (Mrs. David Smythe Papworth), and Helen Stewart. Henry was a journalist in Wellington. He died on July 20, 1888 on Nelson Street. The burial took place on July 22nd.

ANDERSON,HENRY (1838-88) was born at Glasgow, educated there and trained as an analytical chemist. He was for a while a pupil; of Dr MacAdam. Before coming to NZ (1858) he contributed a good deal to the papers in Rothesay and made a voyage to China with his brother (a sea captain). Anderson spent two years with a sister in Rangitikei before coming into contact with T.W. McKenzie (q.v.) who appointed him in 1863 editor of the Wellington Independent. He was a vigorous and forceful writer and made his influence felt in provincial politics. With C.Roe and J and E Bull he founded the Advertiser (1869) which only lasted a year or two. He was editor of this paper and later the Evening Post and the Chronicle. He married in 1864 a daughter of Henry Schultze Henry Anderson (Wellington). In 1869 he was elected M.P.C. for wellington, which he represented to 1871. He died on July 20 1888.
