Alice Bentley, 94, of Claremont passed away March 5, 2003, at Pilgrim Place Health Services Center, Claremont. Mrs. Bentley was born Sept. 27, 1908, in Sedalia, Miss., and has been a Claremont resident for the past 73 years. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, Claremont where she was a member of the Women's Guild, a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Claremont, member of the Foothill Philharmonic Committee, charter member of the Claremont Symphony Orchestra, taught violin at the Claremont Community School of Music and played the violin in many musical groups. Mrs. Bentley came to Claremont in 1930 to attend Pomona College. She graduated in 1932 and in 1933 married Fred Bentley and together they owned and operated Bentley's Market in Claremont. Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Sharron and William Bentley of Claremont, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Susan and Jon Drezner of South Pasadena, 2 great-grandchildren, Nathan and Benjam in Drezner; sister, Gertrude Watts of Claremont; nephew, Kenneth Mock of Pomona and Frances Ubernosky of Rancho Cucamonga; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; son, Warner; and grandson, Andrew. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona. Funeral services will be held at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, Claremont, Saturday, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ambrose Epis copal Church Music Fund, 830 W. Bonita Ave., Claremont, CA 91711 or to the Claremont Community School of Music, 951 W. Foothill Blvd., Claremont, CA 91711. Todd Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
