Betty had lived in Springfield since coming with her family in 1956. She was President of Murray Black Company, which she owned and operated for many years. As a business person, she was strong and determined, but she also loved her employees who were incredibly supportive of her after the death of her husband, William F. Burrows in 1988. She considered her Murray Black Company colleagues a part of her family. Betty played golf at the Springfield Country Club for many years, well into her 80's. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her nearly life-long Springfield friends. She was an accomplished artist as her beautiful oil paintings and pencil drawings can attest and a fine piano player (one of her favorite pastimes), until her eyesight failed. Family gatherings were enlivened by her piano accompaniment to the vocal renditions of her children and friends. Betty was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a beautiful, accomplished, charming, smart and complex woman.
Betty's funeral was Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Covenant Presbyterian Church with Pastor Ray Stewart officiating. Arrangements by Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home.
