Mary Jane Ahrens, 49, died Jan. 14 with her family by her side at the Bone Marrow Unit at the Anschutz Medical Center. She died from complications after undergoing an allogenic stem cell transplant, part of her 8½-year battle with multiple myeloma cancer.
She was born Feb. 22, 1960, in Jacksonville, Fla.
She adored her family and was always the family event planner.
She spent 17 years at North Suburban Hospital as a labor and delivery nurse after attending Hardin Simmons Nursing School in Abilene, Texas, which also is where she met her soul mate Randy, while he was working in the oil industry.
She volunteered frequently at school functions and loved spending time teaching others about her relationship with Jesus. She enjoyed selling Mary Kay products, although she gave away more product than she sold, her family said.
She loved beach vacations, and especially enjoyed numerous RV trips camping and, of course, ending up on the coast.
She also enjoyed arts and crafts and painted many items that will be forever treasured.
A funeral was Jan. 16 at Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Broomfield. As a testament to her spirit and loving smile, more than 600 family and friends attended the services, and then participated in a walking processional to Broomfield County Commons cemetery, her family said. The cross of the church can be viewed from her grave site.
