Born in Mason City, Iowa, on August 26, 1958, Craig Thomas Burgener, 53, of Chandler perished in an automobile accident in Mesa on Tuesday, March 27, 2012. A former tile contractor, Craig was employed by Streets of New York Restaurant in Mesa. Whether he was driving, serving, cooking, repairing, marketing, or engaging in friendly teasing with his co-workers, Craig embraced it all and was immensely happy to be a member of the "Streets" family where he felt accepted, appreciated, and loved. Possessed with a keen intellect and can-do spirit, Craig was ready to tackle any obstacle with enthusiasm and innovative solutions. He was a free spirit and an independent thinker. Craig was the beloved son of Kathryn Burgener and late Merlyn Bugener of Mesa. He is survived by his son Sean (Mesa), his partner of 15 years, Robin Whelan, brothers Rodney Burgner (Austin, TX), Kevin Burgener (Mesa), James Burgener (Chandler), his aunt and uncle Diane and Kent Dugsted (Sun Lakes), and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 7, at 2:00 pm, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 612 S. Ellsworth Rd., Mesa.
