The Elijah Bullion family (also spelled Bulien and Bullin), arrived in Texas in the late 1850ís, coming from the state of Arkansas. They first settled at Bagdad, near present-day Leander, in Williamson County, and in the 1860ís established permanent residence in the Oatmeal of Burnet Co.
Elijahís father, William Bullion, served in Captain William Smithís Company, 13th Regiment, Mississippi Territory, under Andrew Jackson during the War of 1812. At the Battle of New Orleans (fought after peace treaty with Europe was already signed) Jacksonís force of backwoodsmen, Indians, Negroes, and reformed pirates vanquished a British army twice its size, and some 2,000 dead or wounded Redcoats were left behind on the battlefield along with 500, who were American prisoners. One of the citizen soldiers under Jackson at the time was William Bullion, father of Elijah.
