John F. Cassidy, Sr., 79, of Wolcott, departed this life peacefully on October 29, 2009 surrounded by his wife of fifty-one years, Joan (Cianciolo) Cassidy and his loving family. Mr. Cassidy passed away from complications following surgery.

John was born February 3, 1930 in Waterbury, son of the late John S. and Mary (Cuddy) Cassidy.

He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Coyle of Prospect. He was a loving husband to Joan and proud father of their four children.

He is survived by his son John F. Cassidy, Jr. and his wife Angela; his three daughters, Mary Jo Cassidy, Susan Cassidy, and Karen Cassidy (a.k.a. MareSueKare) who all reside in Connecticut. Papa also leaves behind five adoring grandchildren, Justin, Matthew and Kyle Cassidy; Emily Barbara and Katrina Cassidy Anderson. He also leaves his brothers-in law, sisters-in law, several close nieces, and nephews who always admired Uncle Jack. He leaves many close friends, some since his childhood days in Waterbury.

He served in combat in Korea in the First Cavalry Division, 7th Regiment. He attended many Korean War Veterans Reunions across the United States including the dedication of the Korean Veteran's War Memorial in Washington, DC.

John worked as a plumber and steamfitter at Scovill Manufacturing for seven years and retired from NE Utilities, in 1991 after thirty-one years of service in the CL&P and Yankee Gas divisions. He enjoyed his winters at Indian Harbour Beach, Florida where he won championships at the Horseshoe pit and Bocce court while making many new friends from all over the country.

He enjoyed his many trips to Cape Cod as well as gardening and riding around on his tractor. He was a member of the Wolcott Knights of Columbus and American Legion, Yankee Gas Retirees Association, and ARENU. He always looked forward to his Tuesday morning coffee with his co-retirees. He was a communicant of St Pius X Church for over fifty-one years.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 690 Woodtick Road, Wolcott to St. Pius X Church for Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Burial with Full Military Honors accorded will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
