John Barnett Bridges, a prominent and well known citizen, died at his residence, 489 Columbia St, Monday after an illness of nearly three months. He was born in Nottingham, England, in the year 1841. On January 2, Mr. Bridges was stricken with paralysis. Last Saturday he was attacked with a second stroke and remained unconscious until the end. Mr Bridges had been a resident of Portland for the past 30 years. During most of the time he had been engaged in general contracting. He built the home of the late Harvey Scott, the Grand Central Depot, the Dekum building, the Meier and Frank store, the Southern Pacific shops at Albina and the Oregon Dry Docks. He was a member of the Masons and Workmen. A widow and five children survive, all of whom reside in Portland: JB Bridges, Jr., Fred, William, Bert and Mrs. George F. Koehler.
