From the "North Platte Daily Telegraph", Oct. 9, 1899:
"Mrs. Elizabeth Beier, mother of Mrs. Yost, passed quietly away this morning at the home of her daughter on the north side. The deceased died very unexpectedly having retired apparently as bright as usual and in good spirits. At midnight the inmates of the house were aroused by the strange actions and paculiar noises of Mrs. Beier and from that moment to the time of her expiration she remained in an unconcious state. The deceased was born November 8, 1818, at Stockhausen, Germany. Was married at the age of 22 to Henry Beier, a weaver at Stockhausen, who died in 1878, leaving Mrs. Beier a widow with a small family. She came to this country with Mr. and Mrs. Yost and family and has made her home with them ever since. Mrs. Beier was exceptionally active for a woman of her age, having handled the needle very aptly up to the time of her death. She was subject to paralytic strokes, having two previous to the one that proved fatal. Although too feeble to be one of the social world Mrs. Beier had many friends who with her relatives will miss her presence very much. The funeral will be held at the Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon."
The obituary fails to mention that her first husband died in 1840, by suicide, and she married his brother, who died in 1878, both in Stockhausen.
