Kelly Ann Brazeal, daughter of George and Glena Shull Rasmussen was born May 23, 1958 in Springfield, Missouri and departed this life on June 11, 2013 at the Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center in Ava, Missouri at the age of fifty-five years and eighteen days.
Kelly was united in marriage to Russell Brazeal and to this union two sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her father, George and her sister, Kris.
Kelly is survived by her sons, Tim Brazeal and his wife Rochelle, and Tom Brazeal and his wife Candace; her mother, Glena Rasmussen; two grandchildren, Bayli Brazeal and Hoyt Brazeal all of Mansfield, Missouri; a nephew, Scott Smith and his wife Melissa; a great-nephew, Dalton Fielden and a great-niece, Grace Fielden all of Rogersville, Missouri; other relatives and many, many friends.
Kelly was born in Springfield but lived her entire life in Mansfield. She graduated from Mansfield High School with the Class of 1976. She earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State) and her Specialist Certificate from Southwest Baptist University. Kelly was very active in community service roles and was a career-long member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, the Southwest Missouri School Counselors Association, and the Missouri School Counselors Association. She was an active member of the SMSCA and MSCA Crisis Response group, and would often travel at a moment's notice to assist children in other districts. Most recently, she was accepted as an honorary member of Biker's Against Child Abuse. Protecting all children was always a big priority for Kelly. She also served as a member of the local P.E.O. chapter.
In the Mansfield school system she served many years as the high school guidance counselor before becoming the high school principal one year before her retirement. In that time she also served many years as the Mansfield Senior Class sponsor and the Students Against Destructive Decisions sponsor. Additionally, she found an affinity for teaching at the next level by serving as an adjunct faculty member with Drury University, and an advisor/mentor with Missouri State University-West Plains.
It really goes without saying that Kelly loved her job and the students she was in contact with for almost 25 years. She took a lot of pride in counseling students, helping them apply for scholarships, listening to their problems, encouraging and quite honestly pushing them to reach for the stars. Kelly was there for them and they knew it. There will never be another one like her.
Kelly had made a profession of faith in Christ many years ago and was a lifetime member of the Mansfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed working on the farm and going to the lake. But the most important part of her life were her boys. They were her life and she would do anything she could for them.
Kelly was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and aunt. As well as a caring neighbor, friend and educator. We celebrate her life and many accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories we have of her.
