Ansel Byrle Copple, 90, of Liberty, Mo., and former resident of Breckenridge, Mo., died at Liberty Hospital, Liberty, on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010.
He was born on May 14, 1919, the son of William Frederick and Juanita Irene Bryan Copple in rural Breckenridge. He was enlisted in the United States Coast Guard from 1941-46 and served in World War II. On May 11, 1946, he married Clastine Lionberger in Chillicothe, Mo. She preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 2008.
Byrle and Clastine lived in Breckenridge from 1949-2000. While in Breckenridge, Byrle was active in the community and served on the City Board, participated in the planning committee of the annual Street Fair and was a member of American Legion Post No. 363. They were members of the Breckenridge Methodist Church where he served on various boards and became the honorary handyman. Byrle and Clastine moved to Liberty in 2000 and were members of the Liberty United Methodist Church. Byrle resided in the Missouri Verterans Home, Cameron, Mo., for the last year and a half.
Survivors include one daughter, Vicki and husband Dr. Robert Haas of Liberty; two granddaughters, Whitney and husband James Otto of Seattle, Wash., and Erin and husband Michael Colletti of Chicago, Ill.; and one great-granddaughter, Emerson Otto. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and one brother, Dick Copple of Ludlow, Mo.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010 at the Rosehill Cemetery, Breckenridge, at 10:30 a.m. There will be a memorial service on Thursday at the Liberty United Methodist Church, Liberty, starting at 6:30 p.m. with a visitation to and family fellowship to follow at the church. Friends may call on Wednesday from 12-9 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Breckenridge. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Hospital Foundation and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe.
