Harvey Carl Briese was born May 31, 1920, near St. Thomas, North Dakota, the son of Charlie and Anna (Lawonn) Briese. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in New Guinea and Luzon , where he received the Purple Heart. (Pfc. Harvey Briese was Wounded in Action, Battle of Luzon, January 27, 1945 with Japanese hand grenade shrapnel to his foot.) Upon his discharge from the service in 1945 he joined his father and brothers in the family farm operation.
On July 24, 1950, he married Florence "Flossy" Bertha Ganyo at Grafton, North Dakota. They farmed until his retirement in 1984. Harvey enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, woodcarving, making jewelry, tending his vegetable garden, and many numerous other hobbies. He was a lifetime member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Florence "Flossy", daughters and sons-in-law, Loree and Bruce Hadley, Garland, Texas, Lana and Mike Ell, Bismarck, North Dakota, grandchildren, Shane Hadley, Waco, Texas, Ryan Hadley, Wylie, Texas, Trisha Hadley, Garland, Texas, Katie and Jacob Ell, Bismarck, North Dakota, great grandchildren, Samantha, Nicholas, and Rosalyn Hadley, Waco, Texas, brother, Marvin (Minnie) Briese, Glasston, North Dakota, sister, Clara (Walt) Probst, Wenachee, Washington, and several nieces and nephews. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, son, Rodney "Rock" Briese in December of 1999, sister, Lila Martin, brothers, Stanly and Walter Briese.
