Margaret, 91, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at her home. Marge was born in New Haven Township, to Millie (Guernsey) and Thomas Downing.
Marge married Clarence Woodrow Ball on September 16, 1944 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and they were married for sixty-two years. Together they raised three children. After retiring they enjoyed many years of traveling north to the Lake Superior shoreline to camp, fish and hunt for agates in the spring and fall. In the winter they traveled south to Florida to spend several months where they enjoyed friends met there, and family visitors from up north.
In their spare time, they made quilts together for family and friends, participated in flea markets and visited the Mount Pleasant Big Boy daily for breakfast.
After Clarence passed away in 2006, Marge continued her life on the farm, enjoying reading, writing, tending her bird feeders throughout the year, taking care of her cats, and growing beautiful flowers in the summer. Visits by family and friends were always welcome, especially the young visitors. Marge enjoyed her life on the farm, continuously noting the ever changing Michigan nature and wildlife around her.
Marge was employed for twenty five years as a secretary for the CMU Department of Public Safety. She also was a secretary/bookkeeper for Valley Chemical when she was younger.
Marge joined the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAACS) during World War II to serve her country.
Surviving Marge are her family members, which include her children, Anne (Steve) Lees, Patricia (Tom) Swindlehurst, and Michael (Janice) Ball; grandchildren: Julie Swanson, Jay (Penny) Perry, Aaron Swindlehurst, Elizabeth Boyd, Christopher (Vicky) Ball and Alexander Ball; great grandchildren: Brianne and Whitney Swanson, Ted Oberlander, Emily and Kimberly Ball; and many, many other beloved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, her sister Gretchen, brothers Maynard and Arthur, and a grandson Devin Perry.
A Memorial Service celebrating Marge's life was held on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Rowley Funeral Home with Mr. Gene Beavers officiating.
Interment of the cremated remains took place in Riverside Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant beside her husband.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to Woodland Hospice.
