Gary Gene Hughes went to be with his Lord early Friday morning, October 12, 2012. He passed away quietly at home after a short struggle with cancer.
He was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on July 30, 1961. He was moved to Dayton, Ohio at the age of four and spent his life there until April, 2011, when he returned to Kingsport. He was an employee of BAE.
He was the son of the late Rev. Gene G. Hughes and Mrs. Evelyn C. Hughes of Kingsport. He is survived by his son, Ethan M. Hughes of Kingsport, and daughters, Megan Blaisdale of Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Trisha Wilmoth , Troy Ohio, and Mrs. Ashley Zakrie, Royal Palm Beach, Florida. He has 7 grandchildren. Trent and Quinlyn Blaisdale (Ohio), Madison and Peyton Wilmoth (Ohio), Riley, Ella Grace and Savannah Zakrie (Florida). He was preceded in death by his infant grandson, Elijah Quinn Blaisdale.
Also, surviving are his mother, Evelyn Campbell Hughes, brother, Robin L Hughes and sister and brother-in-law, Tony and Katrina Hughes Curtis, all of Kingsport.
Uncle Gary was beloved by his nieces, Vanessa Curtis, Amanda Hughes Sparks (Ohio), and very special niece, Shanon Hughes Blankenship; and his nephews, Jared and Micah Curtis (Kingsport), and Ryan Hughes. He is also survived by an Uncle Kyle Campbell, 8 great nieces and nephews, and several cousins.
Memorial services will be held at Gate City Funeral home on Sunday, Oct. 14, from 10:00 am to 12:00.
