|Birth: ||Dec. 22, 1883|
|Death: ||Apr. 21, 1951|
My father's foster mother, she formally adopted him in March, 1945 while he was serving in WW II.
She was the daughter of David Shay and Mary Coyle Shay. David and Mary were born in Ireland.
On May 14, 1910, she married James A. Callen, a widower. Her birth date on the marriage license application was given as December 22, 1874. Her occupation was given as "paper box maker." It was her first marriage.
It was marriage license number 250574, and the marriage was performed by Patrick J. Gallagher. At the time Annabella lived at 2139 Christian Street, and the marriage took place at St. Charles Borromeo Church.
After Mr. Callen died in November 1944, my dad wanted his foster mother to have his allotment checks. The government balked at this request because he was not a relative. Hence, his adoption at age 20.
Annabella died of chronic nephritis at St. Agnes Hospital in South Philadelphia at the age of 67. At the time of her death, she lived at 1524 South 31st Street. Her occupation is given as "housewife."
The undertaker was John W. Shea, 1449 S. 29th Street and I believe her Requiem Mass took place at St. Gabriel's Church.
