John was born on September 15, 1942 in Jackson, Kentucky, the son of John and Callie (Hall) Deaton. He graduated from Jackson High School. John worked for the Portland Fire Department for 8 years, retiring in 1990. He also served as a reserve for the department for 2 years. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Portland and the Retired Firefighters Association. He married Linda Woolslager on March 26, 1966.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Linda Deaton, rural Portland, Indiana; one son, Scott A. Deaton (wife Kim), Bryant, Indiana; one daughter, Angie Gibson (husband Randy), Syracuse, Indiana; two brothers, Henry Deaton (wife Lois), Portland, Indiana and Joe Deaton, Jackson, Kentucky; one sister, Shirley Bash, Portland, Indiana; 3 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for John Deaton will be held on Friday from 3-7 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Pastor Hugh Kelly will officiate and burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
Memorials may be directed towards Fellowship Baptist Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
