Francis V. Lloyd, 94, of Oriskany, passed away November 21, 2013 at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc.
He was born March 8, 1919, in Oriskany, NY to the late Edgar J. and Agnes V. (Spain) Lloyd. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Rosemary E. (Stoddard) Lloyd, and infant son Richard Lloyd, brother John Howard Lloyd and sister Edna Lloyd Griffin.
Mr. Lloyd was a communicant of St. Stephen's Church, Oriskany for over 60 years. He served as usher and member of the Holy Name Society. He graduated from Oriskany Central School in 1936. Choosing the trade of his father and grandfather from Wales, he began Apprenticeship for wood pattern maker in Cortland, NY and later Utica Steam Engine. As a Journeyman Pattern Maker he served the war effort making prototypes of military armaments and aircraft parts for Curtis Wright and Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, NY. He is especially proud of his work for the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (The Mighty O). As Master Pattern Maker, he worked for OMI, Oriskany and retired in 1995 from Empire Pattern Works, Clinton, NY. In his retirement he collaborated on designs for Smart Tech Golf Clubs and Candy Pix Co. His workshop was brimming with his inventions and gadgets. From childhood, Francis loved the woods and water of CNY. He was skilled in sailing, portaging and fly fishing. Most importantly, he was a kind and generous man to all who knew him.
