Mary Elizabeth Shipp, 83, of Huntsville, AL, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Huntsville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on February 3, 1930 in Limestone County, AL, to Dewey and Alice Black Shipp.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and lived most of her life in Limestone County, where she graduated from Athens High School in 1948. Mary was known for her wonderful cooking ability and worked as a cook in several restaurants in Athens as well as Mullins Restaurant in Huntsville. She was also known for her great sense of humor and was aptly named with the initials M.E.S. as she was a "mess" who liked to make people laugh. She lived most of her senior years at the Todd Towers in Huntsvile and was known for her generosity as she cooked daily and shared her meals with the residents who were unable to cook. Her last year was spent at the Huntsville Health and Rehabilitation where she received loving care from many, including her nurses, Kathy, Bridgette and Shannon, as well as her workers from Hospice Family Care. Mary will be missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby, James and Billy Joe Shipp; and grandson, Chad Elkins.

Survivors include her children, Denise Elkins and husband Mickey of Muscle Shoals, AL, Kathy Graham of Huntsville, AL, Robert Graves and wife Kathey of Arlington, TX, and Jim Graham and wife Deanna of Lacey Springs, AL; grandsons, Todd Elkins, Zack Graham, Taylor Graham and Payton Graves; granddaughter, Jasara Graves; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Darling of WI; and three nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Mickey Elkins officiating. Burial will be in the Athens City Cemetery.
