Buster Ealy Hastings

Buster Hastings was born November 10, 1900 in Aspel, Alabama of Jackson County. Raised on a farm in this rural community, Buster was said to be a jack of all trades. According to an article written about him in the local newspaper, Buster was described as "one of the best all around citizens" of the community. In the same news piece, it mentions he also had employment and skills as a; carpenter, mechanic, blacksmith and laborer at a saw mill.

In February of 1918, Buster Hastings married Rosie Bee Phillips. They had six children together and raised them in the same community of Alabama.

By 1935, the Hasting family received 40 acres of land and help in building a house. President Roosevelt's "New Deal" government funded program helped many American families after the Great Depression. Buster invested a lot of time and hard work in developing his new home and land. He put in the doors, windows, ceiling and cleared more than five acres all by himself in his spare time.

Buster's health took an unfortunate turn around 1950. He battled with stomach cancer in his final year and received medical attention at a hospital in the state of Louisiana.

On July 31, 1951 at the age of 52, Buster Hastings succumbed to his illness. He was survived by his wife Rosie, 2 sons, Buddy and Herman Hastings, 4 daughters; Sue Burns, Judy Hastings , Mae Gifford, Bernice Jones, 6 grandchildren and one sister and one brother.
